GREENPEACE in Central and Eastern Europe operates as a closely connected network. Nine countries collaborate in continuous exchange and together employ around 250 staff members across the region. Greenpeace is a global, independent campaigning organisation that acts peacefully and is entirely independent from governments and corporate interests.

To ensure stability and continuity within our regional People & Culture function, we are currently looking for an experienced and operationally strong

Regional Head of People & Culture (30-35h, m/f/d, 12 months contract)

In this role, you will ensure operational stability, alignment and high-quality HR delivery across our 9-country region during a defined interim period.

Job requirements

As Regional Head of People & Culture, you will guarantee the full operational continuity of the regional P&C function. You will translate strategic decisions into structured execution, provide leadership to the P&C team and safeguard consistency across offices. You would be responsible for the operational continuity, you dont need to be an expert in local regulations and legislations for each one. You would be the direct line manager for 2 Regional P&C Colleagues.

Your Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead and line-manage the regional People & Culture team, ensuring clarity, accountability and high performance

  • Coordinate HR practices across all GPCEE offices to maintain consistent standards and transparent processes

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day HR operations across the region

Implementation & Governance

  • Ensure the structured and compliant implementation of management decisions and organisational development processes.

  • Oversee recruitment, grading and salary processes in line with the GPCEE Salary System

  • Ensure compliance with labour laws, internal policies and governance frameworks

  • Prepare structured policy drafts and decision papers to support sound management decisions

Advisory & Regional Alignment

  • Advise Office Directors and Line Managers on complex People & Culture matters

  • Support workforce planning and organisational resilience

  • Ensure regional learning & development alignment with organisational priorities

  • Support Greenpeace Diversity principles in People & Culture processes and standards

  • Represent GPCEE P&C in international meetings and working groups.

What we expect:

Professional Background

  • Minimum 5 years of senior HR / People & Culture experience

  • Proven line management experience

  • Strong operational HR expertise across recruitment, performance management and compensation

  • Experience handling complex personnel cases

  • Experience in regional or multi-country environments

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and advisory capability

  • Structured, solution-oriented mindset

  • High integrity and discretion

  • Ability to prioritise in dynamic environments

  • Intercultural competence and collaborative approach

  • Experience working with senior management

Compensation aligned with responsibility

We operate independently from governments and corporate interests and are funded exclusively by private donations. This means we are committed to offering fair and responsible compensation, aligned with the level of responsibility and professional experience required for the role. All salaries are determined on the basis of an internal salary system. This guarantees fairness and equal pay throughout the region.

The final salary depends on the working location according to our internal salary system.
