Job description
Greenpeace is a global, nonviolent environmental organization that is independent of political and corporate interests. Greenpeace Romania is part of a regional network in Central and Eastern Europe. A total of nine countries work closely together and employ approximately 250 staff members.
To support our Forest Campaign at our office in Bucharest, we are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated
PR & Digital Specialist (20h/week, 1 year freelancing contract, hybrid)
The freelance Communications & Digital Specialist (Forest) will support the broader Comms & Engagement team in the development and execution of strategic communication initiatives to support Greenpeace Romania’s forest campaign. They will create engaging content, and enhance visibility across channels. The role also involves stakeholder engagement, storytelling, and ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging aligned with campaign goals.
The deliverables will respect the Greenpeace values and communication guidelines and the framework defined by the Head of Communication and Forest Campaign Lead.

Main Responsibilities
PR & Comms:
Work closely with Senior Press & Comms Officer to define plans, agree tactics, timelines and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with campaign needs and goals
In collaboration with Campaign lead and Senior Press & Comms Officer, lead on the approach, planning and deployment of media engagement activities such as pitching, press releases, media briefings, and interviews to secure high-impact coverage.
Coordinate proactive and reactive media responses, ensuring timely, accurate and campaign-aligned communications.
Develop compelling narratives and PR materials (e.g. blogs, op-eds, reports) that translate Forest campaign goals into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences.
Monitor, track and report on media engagement outputs and results.
2. Digital:
Support Digital Officer with the development and delivery of digital content, including social media posts, website updates, newsletters, and campaign materials, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and strong audience engagement.
Assist in implementing digital campaign plans, including scheduling content, maintaining content calendars, and adapting messaging across channels as needed.
Support rapid-response communications tasks as required, including drafting reactive content and updating digital platforms.
Liaise with Fundraising team on specific opportunities, keeping them updated on progress
Ensure all outputs are aligned with Greenpeace Romania’s tone of voice and visual identity.
Competency Profile
The freelance PR & Digital Specialist (Forest) at Greenpeace Romania must have a hybrid skillset combining traditional public relations expertise with modern digital savvy strategic thinking. They should have solid expertise in PR&Comms, media relations and excel in digital engagement, with advocacy knowledge considered a plus.
Must be proactive and able to work both independently and in close collaboration with the team, keeping the various departments updated.
This role is a 12-month contract role with the objective of supporting the Campaign Lead and the Comms & Engagement team in delivering 2026 Forest campaign goals and targets.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Environmental Studies; a Master’s degree is a strong plus.
Certification or training in media relations, strategic communication, or environmental advocacy preferred.
A record of leading successful PR campaigns and implementing communication strategies that yield measurable outcomes
Skills
Good time management and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
Strong media relations and PR skills, including pitching, press releases, media briefings, and securing coverage
Ability to plan and execute communications strategies, aligning tactics with campaign goals and timelines
Excellent written communication skills, with experience producing blogs, op-eds, reports, and press materials
Proven ability to translate complex campaign issues into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences
Experience in proactive and reactive media handling, ensuring timely and accurate responses
Experience creating digital content (social media, websites, newsletters, campaign assets)
Understanding of content planning and scheduling, including maintaining editorial/content calendars
Ability to adapt messaging across multiple digital platforms for maximum engagement
Strong attention to brand voice, tone, and visual consistency
Commitment to the organisation’s mission and values.
A plus:
Understanding of advocacy processes and policy engagement at national and/or international levels
Experience contributing to policy and advocacy materials (consultation responses, position papers, statements)
Ability to synthesize policy information into clear communications outputs
Experience
At least 3-4 years experience in PR, press and/or digital engagement
Familiarity with activism / campaigning organizations is a plus
