Gas Campaigner for Central and Eastern Europe

With fossil gas the second largest source of emissions in the EU uelling the climate crisis, Greenpeace Central and Eastern Europe is looking for a Gas Campaigner focused primarily on stopping the new pipeline of gas projects and accelerating the gas phase out in the region.

The position is preferably based in one of the CEE countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia) and is limited to a year with a possibility of prolongation.

The Gas Campaigner will develop plans and strategies and implement them in coordination with Greenpeace national and regional offices (NROs) in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond, as well as provide the campaign related and the gas sector related expertise and represent the campaign publically to ensure maximum impact.


An ideal candidate will have:

  • A proven track record of delivering successful international campaigns, ideally with experience in working in EU collaboration.

  • Strong communication and advocacy skills.

  • A proven ability to grasp quickly and accurately new and complex concepts and areas of finance/economics and turn them into understandable campaign strategies.

  • Commitment to environmental protection and Greenpeace values.

  • Basic knowledge of gas and energy systems.

  • General overview of EU decision making process and policies relevant to gas sector and of the CEE political landscape.

  • Successful project management experience (including planning and budgeting) and the ability to coordinate with external allies/Greenpeace offices/projects in an international environment

  • Ability to lead, motivate and instill passion.

  • Experience in public speaking / working with media in fluent English (spoken and wiritten, other European languages are a plus)

  • Research and Investigation skills and the ability to identify and instigate research and investigative initiatives which support campaign project goals.

  • Analytical skills, including the ability to prepare external and internal reports, fact sheets, and briefings in support of campaign objectives.
